Bright Shiny New Keys!!

Well folks? It's official!! I am now the brand new co-owner of an apartment (rented of course)!! We picked up the keys and signed the lease on Friday Aug. 28, 2009. The Superintendent let us do this early since September 1 falls on a Tuesday. We got in there to do the inspection, go over things that are wrong/already existing in the apartment that wasn't caused by us, sign the lease and get the keys.

So things on the surface seems great with the place - we now have new beige carpet in the living/dining, and hallway. Previously we had a tiled hall and were happy with that - the carpet guys thought it would be best to carpet to the door instead. So that means we'll have to find good boot trays and a runner to make sure that when winter hits we don't track mud and slop into the apartment any more than we have too. The good news is the building by the entrance doors is also carpeted so we'll mess them up instead of ours =)

We found that the carpet guys haven't quite finished in our unit yet - they carpeted up the coils of the based board heater and have not yet trimmed this, nor have they vacuumed up their carpet pieces yet. I was able to take a load of boxes in on Saturday to begin our move. I have washed the kitchen, discovered that one more cupboard needs replacing, as the actual support have sagged beyond all use, washed two complete sets of dishes and put them both away, loaded the rest of hte kitchen boxes into the walk-in to keep them out of the way of any further work being done in our unit, and found a plethora of left-behind items from the space between the bathroom cupboard and the wall.

This evening after work I'll be returning to the apartment to finish the shelf-paper installation in the kitchen. Tomorrow I want to head back to finish washing the kitchen appliances and start washing the pots and pans. EAch evening we are planning on taking a couple of boxes to our place to wash up and put away - so that we don't have to do everything next weekend after the BIG MOVE occurs - bed, dresser, furniture, tables, random boxes requiring shelving to put away - and of course all the miscellaneous stuff that will probably end up going for garage sale once I've decided I've grown up enough to part with them. I have so much stuff accumulated over the years that I think it's time to complete a massive purge and rid myself of all things that are past their point of being cute/quirky. A Woman of 30 should not have a Winnie the Pooh shower curtain any longer. Though for now it'll do the job until we can decide on a complete colour scheme in the bathroom.

Since I'm working hard on the debt repayment - I'm also eager to get this new place so I can have a Mary Kay party and host it correctly. This will help move the stock I have and make some room in the funds. And since i"m new to the building it'll be a great way to meet some people in the building, have a Christmas sale, and have some fun too!!

The Insurance Issue

So as you know I'm moving at the end of this month into my new apartment with my man. We are both very excited about this, and truly can't wait much longer for it to be done. kind of like when you know it's time for the bandaid to come off that nasty looking wound and that with one yank you'll have the bandaid and half the scab too? (Gross I know but that's where we are at).

There's a train wreck waiting to happen at home that we do not want to be a part of any more. And some things over the last two days have truly sealed our feelings on the whole situation, and really made him see that we should have done this last year. September 1st we take possession of the place. Currently we are sourcing out the tenant's insurance thing. His insurance rates are lower than mine - a combination of age and no accidents - so we'll be going with his insurance company for tenants insurance. I would like a quote on my car insurance from them in the future, but I have to wait until closer to my renewal time before that happens. The thing is they are like, "well if she's looking to switch then we'll hold off on the whole insurance thing until she calls us so we only have to do it once." Great idea on their part, makes sense, but I don't want to switch until closer to my renewal date (Feb. 2010) since I know that the accident I had two summers ago will be off my license after the end of this year and should hopefully not affect things too badly.

We need the tenant insurance by next week so we can sign the lease officially, since it's a stipulation that we have it before that time. So today I hope, C is calling them back to say we'll be going with theirs because it's cheaper, and giving them the exact address and what not. I'll worry about my car insurance thing in 6 months when the renewal rolls around.

then once we have the policy and see the payments we can sit down and figure out how the budgeting will work for some things. WE both have the individual ones done, but I think it'll be smarter for us to put out the jars and put the contributions into them to start each month so we know what we are working with - or just keep two sets of jars going. Some growing pains will just have to work themselves out after we get in I guess.

August 12 and I'm wishing I didn't have to work!

It's been a pretty nice couple of days since my last post. I've made a serious of great dinners of the last two weeks - rice and veggies, a couple of days, a wonderful mushroom dish that my man absolutely loves.

Today I'm felling a bit...no a LOT of work stress. Some things going on are making my life absolutely difficult at work right now. I'll be over the moon when things finally get worked out.

I tell ya, I definitely deserve a raise for everything!

I just wanted to update a few things going on with me.

First, I will be taking possession of our apartment in 17 days!!!!!

Second, I've been cleaning up some food stuffs and packing up a bunch of things so I'm ready and don't have to scramble at the end of it all to do a bunch of things!

Third, I've started taking more initiative in a few work things, some of it forced, some of it on my own and although things are a mess right now, and there are a lot of politics and unnecessary childishness, there are parts of it that I'm actually enjoying.

Fourth, my relationship seems to be getting stronger now that we'll be relieved of nonsense at home.

I can't wait until the stresses in my life subside - and out of it all I hope great things will grow and prosper!

It's funny how this post turned out, I was very ready to completely vent about all the crap at work, and it's turned into not a bad little post.

So, off to check the bill payments and make sure I've on top of my budget!

Have a great day all!!

A Wonderful Weekend!

Happy Post-Long Weekend to all you Canadians who had it!

I had the most amazing weekend! Friday i drove in to my home town to have a barbeque with my three best male friends in the world! Each had their spouse/girlfriend and we all shared news. One couple is expecting their second bundle of joy. One couple has welcomed their first four-legged addition, one couple will be moving in together in October of this year, and myself and my wonderful man will be moving into our first apartment together - and out of his mother's home!

it was a great evening!!

On Saturday my man and I took in a tour of Dundurn Castle and Military Museum in Hamilton, before a lovely light dinner and Cirque de Soliel Alegria! What a fantastic day!! No less than four couples were married at Dundurn in what turned out to be a wonderful afternoon. I'm sure there were more weddings as they all seemed to be stacked back-to-back, but we didn't arrive until just after lunch. the Castle, isn't really a castle at all in the conventional terms. It is actually designed to be a very large villa, based on those found in Italy around the 1800's. The name Dundurn was given to the villa by the patrons of Hamilton at the time. We visited the house of the gentleman that brought the first bank and many other items to Canada. It was a lovely place, and the wares of the kitchen were quite something. the gardens were laden with all the herbs and vegetables one could ever have a need for, and the air was so fragrant!

Alegria was quite spectacular also! I envy those tumblers, the fearlessness of the acrobats and the bodies of the contortionists. What a great night - for those who feel the tickets are a bit pricey, make sure you sign up for their newsletter - I was able to get $25 off each ticket I purchased this way - so expensive but not at full price. for the two of us, plus all ticketmasters fees the performance cost $125 ($50 a piece for the tickets, and $25 of service fees). normally one of these would run about $200 by the time you tack on the extra fees.

On Sunday we drove back to Hamilton to enjoy a 7 hour hike of three waterfalls and a gorgeous lookout point. We went with good friends and rather enjoyed the day. It was beautiful again, which helped, and there weren't any bugs to speak of so that was the best part. I'm allergic to nature so a Claritin made the day even more fantastic since i didn't have to stop every 10 minutes to blow my nose. Once I get the hang of this adding pictures thing I'll post a couple - the views were spectacular!

Who knew that Hamilton is actually the Waterfall capitol of Ontario (if not Canada?) We were able to get to three, both from the top, and two from the bottom. The next nice weekend we'll be trekking into the biggest one from the bottom now that we know that the path to it is vague and tricky we'll come better prepared and tackle it first when spirits are high, joints and muscles are up for the more challenging terrain, and we aren't so tired!

Truly stay-cations are a really great thing. I've been to Hamilton on many occasions but had no idea about the waterfalls all over! We will also try an overnight on the next excursion!

I feel gloriously worked this weekend, if not a little tired today. We spent most of Monday packing things to get ready for our move at the end of the month, enjoyed a little bit of fresh produce from the garden and each other's company. Code for we were too tired to go kayaking or even get out of bed!
